Hello, welcome to 4 Buckets a community for musings on life, food, books, and pop culture. Pop down below and leave a comment, I promise I don’t bite.
The persistent “beep, beep” of my iPhone awakens me at 7:45 am on most Sundays. Time to brush my teeth in my freezing bathroom (there are no windows, but it always feels like the inside of a refrigerator). Wash my face. After catching a few minutes of Valerie Bertinelli or Molly Yeh on the Food Network, I grab my Kindle and retreat back to bed by 8:00 am. I’m not going back to sleep, but every Sunday I like to listen to Open Line on 107.5 on the radio and play Candy Crush while I listen to the program. Unless I’m on vacation, this is my cherished Sunday routine.
Until I sat down to write this post, I didn’t realize how many things I do on a daily basis that are part of a routine—a ritual. Things I need to do to feel balanced. Things I need to do to start my day. I go to the gym four days a week always before starting work, after I always feel like I’ve accomplished something. On Fridays, weather permitting, I go for a walk around the neighborhood, pounding the pavement with the sounds of Pink, Syleena Johnson, H.E.R., or Madonna blasting in my ears is my happy place. I might be out of breath after getting up a big hill, but it’s still a feeling of accomplishment.
What are some of your daily routines/rituals? Care to take part in my highly scientific poll below? I’m just curious if any of you are like me.
If the answer is a no, please drop a comment below.
Three Things
Celebrating a milestone!! I crossed over 50 followers, currently at 56. I also briefly had 10 subscribers, it’s back down to 9 but that’s ok I still see it as a victory. Some of you might not be interested in everything I have to say, but I’m eternally grateful for those of you who are interested.
Cooking for Levi: Please follow this father and son on Instagram, they will put a smile on your face every day. It’s just a father cooking for his three-year-old son and each video is like a warm hum.
Watch Hacks!! The whole cast is great, but I watch it mostly for Jean Smart. I’ve been a fan since Designing Women. Season three just started, but my favorite episode will always be “Quid Pro Quo” from season two. There’s a scene in a diner, where Jean Smart doesn’t speak much but conveys every emotion with just her facial expressions—seriously a masterclass in acting.
