Episode notebook:
Opens with Desmond being rushed through the hospital.
Eloise talks to Penny as she sits in the hospital waiting room. Eloise says her son, Daniel, is responsible for Ben shooting Desmond.
Back in 1977, Daniel returned to the island after spending time on research at Dharma headquarters.
Faraday presses Jack on how he got back to the island. Jack reveals it was Daniel’s mother, Eloise, who convinced him to return.
Daniel insists his mother was wrong; it wasn’t destiny that brought everyone back.
Flashbacks to Daniel’s childhood. Eloise insists he’s meant for great things, like mathematics and science; there’s no time for creative pursuits.
Daniel warns Dr. Chang against drilling, as continuing would be catastrophic.
Daniel wants Dr. Chang to evacuate the island. Faraday tries to convince the doctor he’s from the future, even telling him that Miles is Dr. Chang’s son.
Miles wants no part of Daniel’s crazy notions. Dr. Chang leaves, demanding that Daniel stay away from him.
After Daniel graduates from Oxford, Widmore funds his research.
Sawyer tells his friends it’s time to leave and head back to the beginning. It’s time to start over—at the beach.
Daniel asks to be taken to the hostiles; he needs to speak to his mother’s younger self.
Flashes to Daniel overcome with emotion at seeing the TV footage of the Oceanic 815 wreckage. He’s a shell of himself, suffering from memory loss.
Widmore comes to see Daniel, offering him a research job. Charles tells Daniel that going to the island could heal him.
Jack and Kate help Daniel in his journey to the hostiles, but it comes in a hail of bullets.
Radzinsky finds out Sawyer has Phil tied up in the closet. The jig is up.
Daniel insists he has a way to stop Oceanic 815 from ever crashing on the island.
Eloise apologizes to Penny. Widmore talks to Eloise as she leaves the hospital.
Widmore reveals that Daniel is his son.
Kate thinks Daniel is making a mistake trying to change the future.
Daniel makes it to hostile territory, but with deadly consequences.
