Hello, welcome to 4 Buckets, a community for musings on life, food, books, and pop culture. Pop down below and leave a comment, I promise I don’t bite.
Hero of the episode: Jack Zero of the episode: Claire
Quote(s) of the episode: “How do you know David isn’t terrified of you?”—Jack’s mom | “I came back here because I was broken. And I was stupid enough to think this place would fix me.”—Jack to Hurley | “I didn’t want you to see me fail.”—David to Jack
Music vibes: Airplane sounds when the timeline shifts from the present-day on the island to the flash sideways off the island; threatening beats as Claire helps Jin; imposing and threatening beats as Claire kills a man
Little things: In the flash sideways, Jack doesn’t remember getting his appendix taken out. In this new timeline, it was taken out when he was seven or eight instead of on the island; Miles and Hurley play a makeshift game of tic-tac-toe; Jack and Hurley find themselves back at the caves; Jack is in awe as he watches his son audition at a music competition.
Episode notebook:
Opens with a flash sideways to Jack in Los Angeles, his dad’s coffin, with his body in it, is still missing. In this reality, Jack has a son named David.
Back at the temple, Dogen asks Jack if Kate, Sawyer, or Jin will return.
Hurley sees Jacob, who has a message for him. Hurley needs to help someone find the island.
Jack and David have a fractured relationship. David doesn’t want to listen to his father. Jack is definitely divorced in this timeline.

Hurley tries to go on Jacob’s mission without Jack, but it won’t work without the doctor.
“You have what it takes.” Jacob’s message for Jack has special significance, enough to convince him to follow Hurley.
Claire takes Jin back to her camp, which is filled with oddities. Claire wants to interrogate one of the men who tried to kill Jin, believing he knows where Aaron is.
Is Claire dangerous? Is her mind really infected?
Hurley and Jack encounter Kate, who is looking for Claire, in the jungle.
Jack was incredulous at the thought his son might fear him, just like he was of his father, Christian.
Claire turned into a fierce mountain woman in her three years in the jungle.
Jin questions how Claire is so certain the temple people have Aaron.
David is missing when Jack returns home. Jack heads to his ex-wife’s home and gets sentimental when he sees David’s room.
Jack and Hurley arrive at the lighthouse.
Jin tells Claire that Kate took Aaron, but she still kills the man from the temple.
Jack and Dogen see each other at David’s audition.
David didn’t want his dad to know he was still playing the piano.
Jack gives David the love and validation that were missing from his relationship with his dad.
Jacob needs Jack to discover his importance on his own.
Claire is not the same. The Man in Black is Claire’s new friend.
