Hello, welcome to 4 Buckets, a community for musings on life, food, books, and pop culture. Pop down below and leave a comment, I promise I don’t bite.
Hero of the episode: Sun, Juliet, Bernard Zero of the episode: Juliet
Quote(s) of the episode: “Let’s talk about baby names.”—Jin to Sun in English | “See, it’s all about karma, Jin. You make bad choices, bad things happen to you. But you make good choices and then good.”—Bernard | “I forgive you.”—Jin to Sun
Music vibes: feelings of sadness and hope as Sun gives birth; hopeful during Sun and Bernard’s fishing trip; tender, soft strings when Jin forgives Sun’s infidelity; sinister as “Kevin Johnson” aka Michael comes forth
Little things: Jin speaking English to Jack, saying Sun is a better teacher than Sawyer; Bernard not realizing Jin and Sun are arguing; Jin making dinner for Sun in the end
Episode notebook:
We get back to our boys, Desmond and Sayid, on the boat.
Back on the beach, Sun and Jin are talking about baby names.
This is a flash forward. Sun is pregnant, so clearly she’s one of the Oceanic Six. Yet, Jin also appears, but his scenes have to be flashbacks because Sayid and Hurley made it clear in earlier episodes that six “survived” the crash.
In Jin’s flashbacks, he’s racing to get a toy panda and head to the hospital.
Ben’s spy is helping Sayid and Desmond.
Kate tells Jin and Sun about Charlotte and Daniel’s trip to the Tempest.
Sun asks Daniel about his motives. She doesn’t trust him, Charlotte, or Juliet.
Sun wants to head to Locke’s camp. Juliet begs Sun not to leave, as she would be risking her life by staying on the island.
Sun is in labor in the flash forward. She keeps asking for Jin.
Juliet prevents Sun and Jin from leaving by revealing Sun’s affair. Jin might not fully grasp the English language, but he understands enough to realize his wife’s betrayal is true.
Bernard and Jin bond on a fishing trip. Bernard tells Jin about the hardships of marriage, karma, and Rose’s illness.
On the ship, a female crew member, wrapped in heavy chains, jumps off the boat. Only Desmond and Sayid try to help. The captain claims the crew is suffering from cabin fever.
The captain finally speaks to Sayid and Desmond, telling them that someone faked the crash wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815.
Juliet apologizes to Sun but points out what’s ahead if her patient stays on the island.
Jin forgives Sun, who no longer wants to go to Locke’s camp. Juliet convinced her they need to leave.
Sun gives birth to a baby girl, Ji Yeon. After recovering, she and Hurley make a tearful trip to Jin’s grave.
Ben’s spy is revealed.
A Little Bit of Commentary from me. . .
(edit to my audio: it occurred to me that Desmond might have met Michael in the season finale of season 2)
