Episode recap: The unrest Danielle brought to the camp continues. Everyone is trekking to the caves to hide from the “Others.” People are lugging their belongings to a place they hope will provide some cover. Shannon is struggling with multiple pieces of luggage, to a casual observer one might think she’s reverting to her shallow ways. Needing multiple bags filled with clothes so she can accessorize? In reality, she’s taking Boone’s belongings, not ready to part with them. Her grief is too fresh and too raw to leave his things on the beach, which Sayid understands. Claire is equally stressed. She doesn’t know how to be a mother and is afraid of messing up. She is so afraid she can barely think about the threat they are all facing.
A threat Jack, Locke, Kate, Artz, Hurley, and Danielle are trying to extinguish. Having arrived at the Black Rock, Danielle’s former ship, it’s time to retrieve the dynamite. Danielle takes off, having fulfilled her promise, leaving it up to Jack and Co. to get the explosives themselves. A feat that doesn’t come without consequences. After Arzt explains the history behind dynamite and how to handle it, he blows himself up. A moment that shouldn’t be comical but in a way it is. He chides the rest of the group about not knowing how to handle dynamite but in turn, picks up the worst piece of the explosive, it was sweaty and looked deformed, which should have been a clue to our resident science teacher. At least Jack and Locke learn from Arzt’s mistake and pick better pieces.
While the dynamite crew is on their journey back to the hatch, Danielle returns to the beach desperate to find Sayid. Charlie runs off to find him, leaving baby Aaron and a frazzled Claire alone with Danielle. Until now Danielle’s intentions have come from a good place, but yearning for her own child, Alex, leads her to a desperate choice—knocking out Claire and kidnapping the baby. If she gives the Others Aaron, maybe they will give Alex back to her. Blinded by pain and grief, Danielle can’t see she’s doing to Claire what the Others did to her. Sayid and Charlie set out to find Danielle, promising Claire they will get Aaron back. So much going on as the final episode approaches. Please keep reading, my post for episode twenty-five is posted.
