Hello, welcome to 4 Buckets a community for musings on life, food, books, and pop culture. Pop down below and leave a comment, I promise I don’t bite.
As I get ready to make another trip around the sun, I always think about where I’m at in life. Or where I’d like to be. Now, I’m already over 40 but there are things I’d like to do, accomplish, or strive for before I’m out of my 40s.
(Except for the first and last item, these are in no particular order)
Take a solo trip: I’m saving toward that goal. I would like it to be this year, but it will likely be next year.
Make new friends
Read 50 books or more in a year: I have done this in the past, it’s just gotten harder as I get older.
Eat alone at a restaurant
Become a better manager: I recently started a new job, and it comes with management responsibilities. Since this is my first time as a manager, this is a role I have to grow into.
Learn to bake bread
Go to a concert: I’ve never been to one.
Go scuba diving: I’ve been snorkeling several times, but that’s just scratching the surface of the water. I would love to go deeper into the ocean.
Move to a new apartment within the next two years
Travel to South Africa
Travel to Australia
Travel to New Zealand
Go surfing: Preferably in an area without sharks.
Buy a house or condo
Learn to be content with what I have
Learn to ride a bike…again: I knew how to ride as a child, but I don’t anymore. I think the fear of falling off is keeping me from doing this.
Lose 50 pounds: Another hard one as I love sweets.
Revamp my wardrobe: I feel like some of the things I own make me look frumpy. It’s time to refresh my style.
Develop better saving habits
Save $10,000: Going to be super hard, but I believe in having a rainy-day fund. Would have come in handy during my last layoff.
Join a club: A book club, movie club, crafts…whatever it is it would be good to develop some other hobbies.
Walk more
Get better sleep
Less reliance on screens and gadgets
Go on dates
Get a better skincare routine
Dance more: I’m usually the one glued to my seat when the music starts popping. I’ve always worried that I look silly dancing, but I need to get over it.
Financial stability
Do more jigsaw puzzles
Read more nonfiction
Pitch and publish a travel article with a major publication
Visit Niagara Falls
Travel to Las Vegas
Finish all my book series
Become a better communicator
Become a better writer
Become a better person
Fall in love
See the Mets win the World Series: This is probably a pipe dream, not because of the cost of baseball tickets but…it’s the Mets.
Make this my best decade
